I needed new nice black shoes for work, so I went out and bought some. And they have heels. We're talking 2 inches, which for me is a lot, in that I think the highest heel I've ever bought before was maybe half an inch. I feel like I look horribly awkward walking in them, partly because I feel horribly awkward walking in them. It'll take some getting used to. At least I haven't killed myself walking in them...yet.
Anyway, the big news in these parts is the return of baseball to Washington, D.C. I admit I'm pretty excited about it. I've never had much exposure to a National League team before, so that'll be cool. Of course this doesn't mean I'm giving up the Orioles. Hardly. (Though my boy appears to be in a bit of a slump, sadly.) I'll try to make it to a few Washington games, but most of my energy will be spent on the O's.
I do feel bad for the Expos fans. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to say goodbye to a team.
Current song in my head:
"Accidentally in Love" by the Counting Crows
You feel bad for all 5 Expos fans?
Posted by: Spike at September 30, 2004 11:58 AMHey, they were a dedicated group. Both of them. Plus, they were screwed over by the ownership.
Posted by: Barb at September 30, 2004 01:54 PMYeah they were screwed over...
I think that Bud and co. should have given baseball a real chance in Montreal - like maybe giving them a stadium in the middle of the city, or even allowing them to keep all of the amazing talant they managed to draft and otherwise acquire in the last 33 years rather than keeping them until their third or fourth year and having to sell them to the Yankees or the Red Sox, or anyone with two dimes to rub against one another. Instead, MLB screwed them.
I'm not against baseball in DC, in fact, i'm a big fan of the idea. Maybe Angelos will have to get off of his lazy ass and work to win some games to draw people in, rather than sitting back, counting his millions, and giving us a decade of losing teams.
But, I do think the great people of Montreal got taken by Bud. "Hey Bud, I've got an idea... lets contract the worst team in baseball - the Brewers!!!" No, wait, lets instead give them a brand new stadium, the tens of millions of dollars that comes with hosting an all-star game, and then him publically complain about how hard it is to be a small-market team while he tries to contract other teams to save your own. Actually, in any other industry, what Bud does is called "a breach of the duty of loyalty," and gets CEOs sued for millions.
Yes, i feel bad for the Expos fans. But, whatever... that's my $.02.
