I'd really like to work in fiction publishing and every now and then I come across a website of someone who works in fiction publishing with excerpts from the truly horrible proposals they get. (In fairness, we also get truly horrible proposals.) This is one for children's book proposals. It's all pretty amusing, but this entry made me laugh so much that it made Colin look at me strangely.
III. The All-Time Best Picture Book IdeaThe boy who loved his mother's vacuum cleaner too much.
Yessir, whenever his mother got the vacuum cleaner out he would hug and kiss it, and she had to pry him away every time. And she bought him toys and pets to try to displace his affection, but he would still run straight for the vacuum cleaner every time she pulled it out from the closet, kissing it madly.
I am NOT making this up.
Man, you just don't get stuff like this in occupational therapy. We have to make do with snickering at the pictures of swollen lymph glands in a book about lymphedema (which looks very traumatic). Though it does remind me of the manuscript we got that was dedicated to the author's cat.
