Warning: Orioles rant ahead

Seriously, if you don't care about baseball...feel free to skip this. I just need to rant.

Dear Sam Perlozzo,

Never ever ever EVER put in Jim Brower. EVER. He sucks. He sucks hardcore. Why did you put him in? WHY??? It was a close game. Why did you take Chen out? He was looking a bit shaky, but not that bad. And to put in Brower. How could you POSSIBLY think that Brower would be an IMPROVEMENT? HE SUCKS!!! I don't know why Mazzone is so enamored of the guy (because, in case you missed this, HE SUCKS). Stop listening to Mazzone.

This decision became even more confusing when we saw the Williams was back on the roster. First off, if Williams is back on the roster, WHY IS BROWER STILL ON IT??? Don't send down Britton, SEND DOWN BROWER. But if you're going to leave Brower on the roster, only use him when it doesn't matter. Use him when we're up by a lot or down by a lot, not when the game is close BECAUSE HE WILL JUST BLOW IT FOR US--AGAIN. SERIOUSLY.

Sorry. I admit I was also yelling at you for putting in Raul Chavez instead of Javy Lopez. I mean, really, it looked bizarre. I forgive you now that I have found out that Javy was having back spasms and wasn't available. I'm sorry I doubted you. (Not that you haven't given me cause; see Brower rant above). And until the scoreboard flashed that Brian had an injury, I was yelling about that, too. As was the entire group of really fun fans I was sitting near, who totally helped redeem the game. Well, as much as it could be.

When you made all the changes defensively, I gave up. I laughed. I mean, who wouldn't? Here's the original lineup:

Roberts - 2B
Mora - 3B
Tejada - SS
Gibbons - DH
Hernandez - C
Millar - 1B
Patterson - CF
Conine - LF
Markakis - RF

By the 7th inning, the lineup was this:

Chavez - C
Mora - 2B
Terrero - LF
Gibbons - DH
Hernandez - 1B
Gomez - SS
Patterson - CF
Conine - 3B
Markakis - RF

Only three guys who started played the same position in the 9th as they did in the 1st! I gave up keeping score. Anyway, it was funny. Really, how often are you going to hear, "And he grounds to Mora at 2nd, who throws to Hernandez at 1st for the out"? So it was funny.

Until the 9th. When the bases were loaded. It wasn't funny then. It was heartbreaking. I mean, honestly, the Orioles left like 100 men on base (OK, fine, 13, but close enough) and left the bases loaded how many times? It takes talent to load the bases but not score that many times. Really.

Anyway. The great thing about baseball is that there's another game tomorrow. And hopefully Miggy and Brian and Javy will all be back in shape and we won't get our butts handed to us by Moyer--which is doubtful, as he used to pitch for the O's, who consequently can't hit against him.

The game wasn't a total waste. I chatted with a really nice woman while we watched batting practice, and I got the adorable Chick-Fil-A cow, who is going to work with me on Monday. But still. We need to win this series, Sammy. Have a talk with the boys. Discuss patience at the plate. And advise them to suck less, please.

Oh. And DROP BROWER. Seriously.

Kisses,
Barb

P.S. There were a couple close calls there in the 9th, Sammy, and it would've helped the crowd--the ones who stayed, who were on the edge of their seats and really into the game--if you would've maybe argued those. A lot of people complained that Mazzilli never argued. Don't follow that example (even if I wasn't one of the complainers).
