An ode to suckiness

So the Orioles are in a freefall lately–thanks in large part to Brian being on the DL; they’re something like 1-9 since he left–but on the positive side, it inspired this great recap on Orioles Hangout.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda

This week is Public Service Recognition Week, which honors all federal employees who serve America as federal, state, and local government employees. This week is supposed to be used to educate people throughout the nation aaround the world about the many ways government services make life better for all of us.
Hurrah, I guess, since I’m now a government worker. What excited me was the notice that the Office of Personnel Management would be having a barbecue. Exciting! And then I saw “Prices TBD.” I mean, yeah, it really doesn’t make sense that it would be free, but it’s like, “Good work! Now pay for your lunch.” That seems off to me, somehow.
Though I’m sure that you, the taxpayer, are quite happy that your money isn’t going to a free lunch for me. Nope, it’s going to the subsidized lunch that I will probably be having instead. Thanks!

At least it’s just the 15-day DL

In a very upsetting turn of events, My Boyfriend Brian Roberts has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin (…hee). This is upsetting for me both because, you know, he’s my boyfriend, but also as an Orioles fan. He was doing awesome–batting .330, 9 stolen bases, 8 doubles. And this is all the more impressive when you consider how he ended last season. As recently as February people doubted he’d play Opening Day, and look at him now! Sigh.
Plus, there’s the possibility that this will hurt his chances in All-Star balloting, which for some reason has already started (go here to vote–and vote Brian, because honestly, what other AL second baseman is more deserving?). I want him to be the All Star starter again, dammit.
I tried to look at this in a positive light. “Hey,” I said to myself, “this means he’ll have to rehab somewhere–probably Frederick or Bowie. Maybe I can get my picture with him, the way I did with Ex-Reserve Oriole Boyfriend Larry Bigbie [who, actually, is also on the DL in St. Louis]!” Then I checked the schedules for the Keys and Baysox. Both are away the weekend right before Brian could make his return. Typical.
Anyway, get better soon, Brian. I need you. The Orioles need you.

Author’s Note: I wrote this yesterday, but I can’t publish from work and I didn’t turn on my computer last night. So…here it is. And yes, I do email myself blog entries. What of it?
I’m in a good mood. I’m being productive. I’m motivated. The day is moving quickly. This is not something that happens terribly frequently in my life–usually it’s one or two…but not all of them.
This is more remarkable when you consider that I was definitely not in a good mood yesterday evening. That’s fairly typical; Sunday nights are always my worst time. I should’ve been peppier yesterday; I actually went and picked up the keys to my new apartment. Exciting! But seeing an empty apartment…actually not that thrilling. Particularly with the knowledge that you’ll have to haul all your crap from there to here.
But today I am chipper. I’ve switched around my moving date so more people can help. I think the work motivation comes from the fact that there are actually two events this week at work–a somewhat regular project that we all get involved with, and a meeting on Friday that I’m kind of running. So it’s a change of pace, which is always nice.
Plus, it’s May. And it’s a three-paycheck month. That’s always good. And my first three-day weekend since I started at this job. Finally.
