Procrastination help

Posted in Completely random | No Comments »

I love Google Reader. It’s how I entertain myself at work. I’ll have a down minute and check Google Reader to see if any of the blogs I subscribe to have been updated. So convenient! At the same time, though, the fact that I can go to one place to check many blogs saves time, which doesn’t help me procrastinate. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Except those blogs that don’t have the full entry, so you have to actually click through to read it all. Boo, I say.
Curious about which blogs I subscribe to? Here’s the list. And if you have any suggestions, let me know.
A Soviet Poster a Day. This hasn’t been updated in a while, but the posters with commentary were quite interesting. And amusing at times.
baltimoresun.com - Orioles/Baseball. Not terribly helpful, but it lets me know whether the Sun has any articles of interest, or whether it’s more fantasy baseball stuff.
The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks. A pet peeve. The documentation makes it easier for me to deal.
Camden Chat. Orioles commentary.
Celebritology. Washington Post’s celeb column. A good mix each morning of the latest news and rumors.
Consumerism Commentary. Personal finance information, with some lighter entries.
Crap Every Time. A look at each day’s They’ll Do It Every Time (a comic strip, though perhaps the word comic should be in quotes).
DCist. What’s going on around DC.
ESPN Feed: Paul Lukas. He does the Page 2 column about uniforms, which I find oddly fascinating.
Fire Joe Morgan. Snarky commentary on subpar baseball commentators.
indexed. Various concepts graphed.
itty bitty kitty committee. Blog of a woman who fosters kittens. Super cute!
John Kelly’s Voxford. A Post columnist took a year to go to England. This is his blog from there.
Literally, a Web Log. Illustration of how it would be if we did take certain things literally.
Metroblogging DC. Like dcist, but less prolific.
Overhead in the Office. Frightening and amusing snippets of dialogue from office life.
passiveaggressivenotes.com. Notes…some of which are less “passive” and more “aggressive.”
PostSecret. People write their secrets on postcards, then mail them.
Roch Around the Clock. Blog of a Baltimore Sun columnist who covers the O’s.
slacktivist. Blog of a minister, I believe (I’m not totally sure), who speaks for the sane wing of Christianity. Worth looking at his ongoing deconstruction of Left Behind.
Smart Bitches, Trashy Novels. Two women declare their love of trashy romance novels, including ripping apart the horrible covers.
SnarkSpot. Blog of author Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed, In Her Shoes).
The Comics Curmudgeon. Commentary on the day’s comics. Has gotten me hooked on Mary Worth.
The Daily Kitten. A cute kitten every day.
The Daily Puppy. A cute puppy every day.
Tomato Nation. Blog of Sars of TelevisionWithoutPity fame.
Uni Watch. Blog of Paul Lukas, with comments on uniforms throughout sports.

Can’t take my eyes off of you

I heard about River Phoenix’s death on the radio. I thought it was a joke–a Halloween prank, even though I had never heard of any such thing. But it was the only way I could make sense of it.
I heard about Heath Ledger’s death on the radio, too. I was in my car, and WTOP was doing its top of the hour news round-up and it was their top story. And…yeah, I can’t believe it. It seems like such a waste. How can Heath Ledger die when Britney Spears is still wandering around? It’s all such a waste. He was such a great actor.

2010 Olympics, here I come…

Barb curling.jpg
Yesterday I learned to curl, and it was awesome. Sure, my hamstring is a little sore today, but it was so worth it. We learned the multiple steps in releasing the stone, and how to sweep, and then we played a few ends. I somehow wound up being the skip of my team–meaning that I called where the stones were supposed to be aimed, and that I threw the last two stones for my team. And we won! 3-1. I apparently have mad curling skillz.
