Or maybe the missing sheets are still hiding somewhere

Posted in My life | No Comments »

When I moved into the apartment up in Aspen Hill, I got rid of my twin bed and got a queen-sized bed. But I kept all my twin-sized sheets. The theory was the one day, I’d get an apartment with a second bedroom, in which I’d have a twin bed.
I finally realized the futility in holding onto these sheets and decided to get rid of them. So I spent the evening going through my closets to pull out all of the sets of sheets. And dang, I had a lot. I guess it makes sense; they basically span from however old I was when I first slept in a bed to when I was 25 or so. The weird thing is that for some sets, I could only find part of it–the flat sheet or the fitted. I’m not sure how this happened; did I just randomly chuck individual sheets?
Anyway, so now I have more storage space, so, yay!

Upping Chuck

I admit that I’m not a huge fan of the Style Invitational. I usually just glance at the winning entries, and move on. But I loved this week’s, which added to the Chuck Norris canon. I particularly like “Chuck Norris can make a 190 degree triangle,” “Chuck Norris does not obey the law of gravity. He humors it,” and “On a Metro escalator, Chuck Norris stands right, kills left.” (Awesome!)
There was a similar discussion on an O’s message board I frequent, about Additional Oriole Boyfriend Jim Johnson–who is all things good and right with the world and the bullpen. The one I remember best from that was, “The city of Baltimore named a road after Jim Johnson, but had to change the name after pedestrians kept getting killed. You don’t cross Jim Johnson.”

But hey, they got sushi last year!

There was an article in the Post today about privatizing the Senate’s restaurants. I didn’t realize that the Senate even had multiple restaurants, much less wonder about who ran them. I had heard about some sort of famous bean soup in one of the Congressional restaurants, but that’s where my knowledge of them ended. It’s kind of amusing, though, to picture all of these Senate staff members trooping over to the House’s restaurants.
Reading the article, I’m glad to see that taxes are going to stop bailing out the restaurants. Not that I should say anything; I certainly benefited from taxpayer-subsidized food when I worked for the government. I just hope that the cafeteria was turning a profit. I have to imagine it was. There were no restaurants near that place, and the cafeteria was pretty much always packed. I do miss getting a cheesesteak, fries, drink, and cookie for $4. Man, that was one of the best parts of that job.

Hot cats

For a while I worried about my cats dealing with the heat. The lack of central air conditioning in my apartment means that it gets pretty warm in here–I certainly can’t leave the window units going all day while I’m at work. But then came a day during mid-summer when I came home to my apartment and found Colin lounging in a sunbeam, despite the fact that it had to have been in at least the mid-80s in here. So my worries pretty much vanished after that.
But if I needed reinforcement, today provided it. My bedroom air conditioner was on all night, so it was nice and comfortable in here. The rest of the apartment? Warm and humid. And yet, where are the cats spending most of their time? Here’s a hint: Not in the bedroom. Silly cats.

Wii? Non.

Those commercials for the Wii Fit have totally worked on me. I want one. They have convinced me that I can use them to help get in shape. I’ll use it to learn yoga! I can play games and get aerobic exercise! Plus, I had fun playing baseball and bowling on one at my cousin’s house last Thankgiving. (I totally kicked butt at baseball, thankyouverymuch.)
Then I looked and saw how much it cost, even without the Wii itself. Then I saw how much the Wii cost alone. HAHAHAHAHA. So much for that idea.

Dream a little dream of…

The other night I was watching Veronica Mars just before bed. OK, I was watching VM videos on YouTube. OK, I was watching Logan-centric videos on YouTube. Geez, you people just don’t let it go! Anyway, I wound up having a dream in which I was Veronica and it involved a lot of making out with Logan. (Huzzah!)
Then last night, I was reading The Chocolate Lovers’ Club just before bed. I wound up having a dream that involved me eating this great chocolate that tasted like smores.
Apparently my mind is lately susceptible to suggestions for dreams. I’m going to have to think about this and plan my late evenings accordingly.
Edited on Friday to add… And it continues! After watching The Colbert Report last night just before bed, I had a dream in which I was hanging out with Stephen Colbert (the real person, not the pundit). He was very cool.

I bet we could talk them down to $325K

I found another house I want. I pass this on my way to and from the Y. Super cute! At first I was like, “Only two bedrooms?” but then I saw that there’s also a den and an office, and a lower level with a rec room or guest room. Totally manageable! I just need another, say, $1500 a month to be able to afford it.
In other news, check out this story about a couple of grammar nerds wandering the country, correcting errors. I managed to prevent myself from correcting a sign at the Y the other, thanking us for our “patients” as they waited for the a/c to be fixed in one of the cardio rooms. Mind you, it was less controlling myself, and more not having a pen. Thankfully the sign is gone. (The a/c doesn’t seem to be fixed, though.)
