??? in 1001

So, how many of my 101 in 1001 did I actually complete? Some are more cut-and-dry than others. In general, though, it’s a good list to have, and I’ll certainly try to complete it. I think I did decently. Complete breakdown after the jump; completed items are bolded, comments in italics.


Travel & Education
1. Go to the National Portrait Gallery once it opens Been a few times and yes, I did see the Colbert portrait when it was there
2. Take a course to learn Russian
3. Visit the Udvar Hazy branch of the Air & Space Museum You know what’s holding me back? Having to pay for it. It’s the Smithsonian, dammit! Hmm. I wonder if my ID badge would get me free parking there…
4. See the Spruce Goose when I’m in Oregon It is, indeed, quite large.
5. Visit Independence Hall in Philadelphia
6. Go to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia
7. See what the FDR house/museum in Olney is all about I’m counting this as done. It has something to do with Dean Acheson, who was an assistant secretary in FDR’s administration. Acheson actually died in Sandy Spring/Olney.
8. Go to Russia
9. Go to Charleston
10. Visit the Antietam Battlefield
11. Go to an exhibition at the Corcoran Almost! But the line was crazy long.
Stuff For Me
12. Grow my bangs out
13. Get a mani-pedi
14. Go to a Clinique counter and get a make-up demo
15. Lose at least 20 pounds Not so much. I actually weigh 5 pounds more now than when I made the list. But I’ve lost a couple of pounds in the past few weeks, so…
16. Have a professional massage Mmm, hot stone massage. May get another on my November cruise.
17. Wake up when the alarm goes off without hitting snooze, every day for a week
18. Kiss a boy on New Year’s Eve Nope. Sniff.
19. Go on one real date A few, in fact.
20. Move on to “Advanced” in tap
21. Audition for at least one community theatre production Didn’t make it, but hey.
22. Visit the fitness room 10 days over a 2-week period
Grown-Up Stuff
23. Pay off credit card debt HAHAHAHAHA. Sigh. It’s slowly going down now. And I’ll get my car paid off in the next couple of months, which will also help this a lot.
24. Actually examine mutual fund and determine if my money would be better off somewhere else Would now be a really good or really bad time to do this?
25. Draft a will
26. And a living will
27. Balance checkbook–totally, so there’s no difference between the bank and what my register says If I’ve consistently been $14.20 off, does that count? I should just factor that in and make it even.
Things to Buy
28. Sneakers to work out in
29. Shoes at a store other than Target, Payless, or DSW
30. Baseball glove Softball glove. I’m counting it.
31. Red dress I got one that’s reddish-purplish, but it’s not what I had in mind initially
32. Wear it somewhere
33. A ring that I will actually wear
34. Nice earrings that I will actually wear I haven’t worn earrings consistently in a while, but I did for quite some time.
35. A jewelry case for my nice jewelry
36. A cell phone with cool ring-tones Current ring-tone is the Buffy theme
37. A headboard or frame for my bed so it looks more grown-up
38. New sofa and chair (when move into different apartment)
Entertainment-Type Things
39. Visit at least one of the DC “establishment” restaurants (e.g., 1789, Old Ebbitt Grill, Inn at Little Washington, Ben’s Chili Bowl, Tabard Inn) Have made it to all of those (OK, Ben’s was at the Nats stadium) except the Inn at Little Washington
40. Go to plays at the following local theatres: Arena Stage, Studio Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Signature Theatre, Olney Theatre I saw one thing at the Signature and have just kept going back! I have definite plans for something at…Arena, I think
41. Go to a concert at Merriweather, Nissan, or Strathmore Jon Stewart at Merriweather and a couple things at Strathmore
42. Go to something at Wolf Trap (again) Nope. Stopped myself from seeing Les Mis there.
43. Drag Becca to an Orioles game
44. Go ice skating On one of the aforementioned dates, even!
45. Go snow tubing again
46. Go river tubing Very banged up by this. But fun!
47. Go camping again
48. Attend a professional game of one of the following sports: hockey, basketball, football Hockey game. Again, on a date! Woo!
49. Visit the Oregon Shakespeare Festival I want to be rich and go every year. They’re doing Macbeth next year!
50. Go to a bar that isn’t in Gettysburg
51. At night Apparently this happened last September. I have no recollection of it. [Oh! I remember. For a friend's birthday.]
52. Attend a taping of The Daily Show or The Colbert Report I’m seeing The Daily Show on November 3, so I’m counting it, because I got the tickets ages ago
53. Attend the kite festival downtown
54. Take Gram to a baseball game
55. See Casablanca
56. Read Catch-22
57. Have the Ewan McGregor-fest we’ve talked about having I’m giving up on this one. No offense, Ewan.
58. See A Christmas Carol at Ford’s Theatre I think I should get a pass on this, seeing how Ford’s was closed for at least one of the Christmases
59. Look at list of books to read and get those books from the library instead of random ones
60. Read books I’ve already bought instead of borrowing from the library I’ve been pretty good about both of these. Not that my list of books to read is getting shorter.
61. Go to a game at Wrigley Field
62. Attend a baseball play-off game (preferably World Series)
63. Go to the Improv, or some other stand-up venue
64. Go to a water park
65. Visit a batting cage
66. Attend a happy hour
67. Attend the National Book Festival on the mall
68. Reread one book I had to read for college, kept, and haven’t touched since
69. See all the movies that are nominated for the Best Picture Oscar in a year It was for the 2006 Oscars.
70. Watch at least 5 movies with the commentary Not even one! I know. I’ve watched a bunch of shows with commentary, though.
71. Throw a party in which more than just the same usual people are invited (not that I don’t love them…)
72. Go golfing–or hit golf balls–with Dad Dad was injured for part of this time, and also golfs less now.
73. Swim in the ocean (doesn’t matter which)
74. Have pajama day Numerous times!
Other
75. Get at least one freelance job I’ve even gotten one from a place where I didn’t work before!
76. Wash the inside windows of my car
77. Make New England clam chowder from scratch
78. Come up with a week’s worth of dinners in advance–and stick to it
79. Find and frame poster of St. Paul’s Cathedral during the Blitz (if this involves actually going back to London, so be it)
80. See a famous person in DC Mo Rocca at Ford’s Theatre
81. Actually go to the farmer’s market in Rockville instead of passing it each week and thinking it looks cute I went to the Takoma one; same concept, though, so it counts
82. Actually wear those brown shoes I bought
83. Ride a bicycle
84. Do something about that weird line on the side of my car It seems to have gone away on its own
85. Get rid of the mildew or whatever that is in the shower—it should be white Tilex works wonders
86. Update my photo album more than once every couple of years It’s almost current; I’ve done through at least last Christmas
87. Get an orange kitty to keep Colin company Pem!
88. Either replace the glass in the print over my bed, or get rid of the print Gone
89. Drive a convertible Oh my gosh, this was AWESOME; I felt so free
90. Visit Pop-Pop’s grave It’s funny, Gram and I every now and then are like, “We should do this,” but haven’t actually done it–I don’t feel too bad, since she’s hardly chomping at the bit to do it
91. Create more iTunes playlists
92. Reply to e-mail from Andrea (it’s been in my in-box since 01/05) Pathetic! I should just give this up and file the email away instead of keeping it in my inbox
93. Write in diary at times other than when I’m really upset and need to vent Nope. I should update it. But I let it go, then it becomes all efforty, etc.
94. Write a fan letter to an author Why haven’t I done this? It’s so easy!
95. Rip all my CDs onto my computer I’m getting there.
96. Get my picture taken with someone famous (at least, famous to me)
97. Find a map of the United States and color in the states I’ve actually been to (driving through doesn’t count)
98. Play blackjack for money Actually got a blackjack on my first hand
99. Sell box of Sweet Valley High book on eBay
100. Fly first class
101. Get a tan
So, out of 101, I did…53 and a part (the theaters one). Over half. Which is decent, I guess.
